In reply to your letter of 29th September E.321/29

enclosing a despatch from the Governor of Hong Kong on the

subject of the expensen of the Consulting Engineors in respect

of designs for rolling stock which are common to both the

British and Chinese Sections of the work, we beg to state

that we have turoughout allocated ur expenses equitably to

the best of or judgement between the two Sections where the

work has overlapped.

We should like to point dit, however, that our

fim are not Consulting Enginers to the Chinese Section of

the Railway, but Sir John Wolfe Barry and Mr. A.d. Barry

(the latter gentleman not being a morber of our fim) act

when desired in the capacity of designing and inspecting

Engineers in res oct of taat work.
